Create an "Evolution" Out of Our Resolutions!

Here we are again, the start of a new year! This time of year is always represented as: “Out with the old, and in with the new." It’s documented that approximately there are approximately 41% of Americans who usually make New Year's Resolutions. That said, Statistic Brain research (from January 2017) suggests that just 9.2% of people feel like they successfully achieved their New Year's goals from the previous year.
The top resolutions for 2018, conducted in 2017 in the U.S., include:

The amount of time that we stick to our resolutions (from a 2013 study):
In 2017, these numbers were observed as:
72.6 % Resolutions maintained through first week
68.4 % Past two weeks
58.4 % Past one month
44.8 % Past six months
Interesting information, don’t you think? You know what’s even more interesting, according to this study, 37.8% of people in their 20’s actually stay with their resolutions, and only 16.3% of people age 50 and over actually stay with theirs. (This study was conducted in January of 2017 by Statistic Brain Research Center). This is all pretty interesting.
So why don’t we stick to resolutions? Maybe we create unrealistic expectations for ourselves. Maybe we don’t plan enough. Maybe we don’t want it enough?
So how can we change this? Well the reality of change is, we must start with ourselves. The only thing we have the power to change is us. But, when we decide we’re going to change, we typically want to do a 180 and change everything at once. That does not work. Not long term anyway.
The way to achieve change, lasting change, it to take it one step at a time. So, this year, let’s make lasting change! We’re going to do a challenge this month, where we individually make small changes daily, and log those changes. Some days, you may keep pursuing the change from the day before. That’s OK; it’s still change. Let’s add some healthy eating, some movement, some soul searching-- whatever it is for you “that day”! Everything you do in a positive direction is moving you forward in the direction you want to go! It could be big, or it could be as small and simple as not eating that free doughnut at work. Your goal could even focus on your mental health! It doesn't matter what it is, as long as it is a positive change.
Just remember that change comes in steps! If you force your body into change immediately, you will struggle and feel awful because you are instantly robbing your body of what it has been used to for a long time. Ween yourself off of the unhealthy, slowly replacing those bad things with good! Chart those changes, and admire your progress!
At the end of the month, submit your list to us (we have a sample you can use, or use your own), and your name will be entered to win a $20.00 office credit. We’ll be giving away three office credits at the end of the month! You have nothing to lose and absolutely everything to gain! Join us, won’t you?
REMEMBER…Your life does not, will not, get better by chance-- it will get better by change.
Healthiest wishes for this new year!
