Motivational Monday: Define Yourself
(Originally posted on August 26, 2019)

Life is a journey
! Sometimes it's a beautiful, happy, joyful ride and sometimes it's a tough road!
Every one of us starts out at the same place. Yes, some of us are born into what appears to be an "easier" situation than others, and some of us are born in what appears to be a more "difficult" situation than others. However, life and history has shown us over and over again that our beginnings are not what defines who we become. I could name countless "billionaires" who have come from impoverished backgrounds and have made for themselves— at least financially—
successful lives. Although I would argue that "financial" success is not always happiness; in this instance, it serves to make my point. The fact that we swept floors for a living—or slept in a car at one point in our life— does not mean that we cannot move out of that situation and move on to one that serves us better. In fact
: sweeping floors or sleeping in a car might very well be serving us. It might very well be the thing that propels us forward in life. It might also be the thing that keeps us humble and allows us to reach out and help others.
They say our past should not define us.
I'm not sure I agree totally with that. In some way, allowing it to define us might be good. Maybe
our past should define who we choose to become in the future
. If we find the good in everything, we can also find the usefulness in everything. There are no unique experiences—whatever you have experienced in the past, someone else is going through the same thing this very moment. You are an example that your experience is a moment; that it will pass and that you will move forward and past it. The journey will continue and joy and happiness will return. You don't have to do anything other than be a beacon of light for another person. You overcame, you grew, you learned, and you have become who you are today because of your past! Be that beacon for someone else experiencing the same thing. You can show them that they can also overcome their struggles and that they can succeed!
If by the same token, you choose to hold anger and resentment and " live
" in that past, you are not serving yourself or others. We have all made "mistakes;" we have all chosen what we feel is the " wrong
" path, and each and every one of us has " regrets
".
But...should we?
No, we should live in the moment. The now. Embrace who we are; be grateful for the experiences that made us who we are. Use those experiences as guidance for the future and accept the future for what it is. Now
is all we have...we can't change the past and there are no wrong paths or mistakes... there just "is!"
This week, embrace who you are and how far you have come! If you feel like you're walking through Hell right now... walk as if you own the place!
You got this, and you and the world are going to be better for it!
"You have the power to create light in the darkest days. Choose to shine!"
