Motivational Monday: It's Contagious!
(Originally posted on December 9, 2019)

It's all up to us!
What we feel, how we react, what kind of day we have, what kind of life we have—it's up to us! What we think, will be!
Someone starts yawning so we yawn. They yawn and so on and so on...
Someone starts laughing and we start laughing! Experiments have been done on this. I know we shared this video
before but it's so funny it's worth a repeat! Laughing now? I bet you are!
So if yawning and laughter are contagious, what else is contagious? Have you ever met someone that makes you feel awesome every time you're around them? By the same token, have you ever met someone that makes you feel drained and exhausted every time you're around them?
The people that make us feel good are impacting our energy in a positive way. They are essentially filling us up and sending us back into the world with a positive outlook.
The people that drain at us are having the opposite effect. Unfortunately we can't always avoid the people that bring us down; however there are some things we can do to protect ourselves.
The first is always recognizing the situation for what it is.
If you always feel poorly after being with a certain person, recognize it and then prepare yourself before you spend time with them again. Go into the situation with yourself in a good and solid place. Smile ( that's contagious too...
), be upbeat, and refuse to take on their energy or their tone. You might need to take a few minutes to yourself after your meeting to shed their mood. Don't forget to smile....keep smiling!
The way we choose to see events in our life is the tone and the path which our life will take. It's like a spiral— we can spiral up
or we can spiral down.
The choice is ours!
We are all light and we are all darkness. Do we choose to show the world the light, or do we choose to show the world the darkness?
Now don't get me wrong, there are events in life that are going to suckerpunch us and take us down for a bit. We're human and it's ok to feel those feelings. What we need to be cautious of is the spiral
. Going down is much easier than rising up! I love this quote by Colette Werden: "It's ok if you fall down and lose your spark, just make sure you rise up as the whole damn fire."
The problem with people in a constantly negative state is that they can't see their way out of their own darkness. We can guide them and show them light by our own actions. Smile, be upbeat—it's contagious! Your smile and joy just might be someone else's light!
The world seems to feed on fear and anger. We fall into it easily by watching the daily news and hearing about all the negative going on in the world. It's true, there is a lot of bad out there—but there's also a lot of good. What are you focused on?
Changing our views and our perceptions is a challenge for all of us. We can only do it step by step, moment by moment.
There are times we'll succeed and times we won't— but our efforts at laughing, loving, and being positive will be the first steps in moving our world in a different direction!
There's a great book called " The Positive Dog."
It's a story about the " two dogs inside of us."
One dog is positive, happy, optimistic, and hopeful while the other dog is negative, mad, sad, pessimistic, and fearful. These two dogs will battle inside of us— but who is the winner? It will be the one we feed!
Which are you feeding?
“All energy is contagious. If we can infect each other with fear, hatred and violence, then shouldn't we, presumably, be able to do the same with love, generosity and patience?”
