Motivational Monday: So thankful for YOU!
(Originally posted on November 25, 2019)

Here we are again: it's Thanksgiving! Most of us are looking forward to a day off, a good meal, and some companionship with loved ones. This is the season of joy, happiness, love and gratitude!
There's much debate over whether or not the Pilgrims and the Indians actually shared a feast on the "first harvest"
in October of 1621. Instead of focusing on that, I think we should focus on what this story should teach us.
According to the legend, the Indians taught the Pilgrims how to live in this new land. On that "harvest" day, they joined together to enjoy the fruits of their labors. To this day, we join together as family and friends to share a "feast" and to "give thanks" for our prosperity during the
preceding
year.
But should we be giving thanks only on this day?
I believe we should be giving thanks everyday, in every way,
for everything! Yep, that means everything!
So that driver in front of you that was going so slow you were late for work— yep, you should thank him!
Maybe he saved you from being in an accident just up the road.
What about that crisis that happened at your house and cost you money that you were saving for something else? Yep, be thankful!
Maybe whatever it was you were going to do with that money wouldn't have been for your greater good.
What about when you were bullied by a classmate growing up, and now that classmate needs your help? Be grateful—
because you may have become a more loving individual because of them, and now you have the opportunity to show them love. Maybe you even have the opportunity to heal their wounds—and your wounds—in the process.
You see, everything—no matter how difficult, or how dramatic— always, always, always
has at least one positive thing that came out of it. At least one!
And I bet if you sat and looked at it, you could find many
things. The ripple effect is always happening; what we put out there, ripples out into the world.
Did you know that Thomas Edison, when inventing the light bulb, said, “I have not failed. I just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
That’s an attitude of gratitude. Sometimes when we "fail" (although I don't really believe anything is a failure or a mistake) we have an emotional response. We've been let down—either by ourselves or others. If we live in an attitude of gratitude ALL THE TIME, we
realize that failure is just a key to learning; to doing things a different way. So sometimes, like Thomas Edison, maybe you have to fail 10,000 ways before you finally get it right. If you give up too soon, you'll likely miss the wonderful result when it finally all clicks into place! I mean really...thank God, Thomas Edison didn't give up!
My power was out for about 10 minutes last night and during that time I was grateful that I'm not a Pilgrim. 🤣
If you consciously choose to see everything that happens in your life as something that has the potential for good, your entire life will shift. This week during our week of gratitude, I challenge you to try and see all the things in life that you are grateful for. Maybe take this even a step further by choosing a difficult moment of your life and write down all the good that came from it. I bet you'll see that that event rippled way further than you see, and that way more good came out of it than you ever realized before!
Happy Thanksgiving!
I am personally grateful for each and every one of you and the impact you've had on my life!
Thank you!
