Motivational Monday: The world is a beautiful place
(Originally posted on May 27, 2019)

First I'd like to start with saying "Happy Memorial Day"
, and a big THANK YOU to all veterens and those currently serving. THANK YOU for your service and your sacrifice
! Today we honor you!
The topic of beauty has come up a lot lately. Beauty—t o me anyway
—has never been something easily definable. I could look at someone and think: "Oh they are nice looking," or "They have a nice smile." The word " beautiful,
" however, I've always reserved for something way deeper than what I see on the outside.
This morning I saw a photo of Marilyn Monroe. I'm pretty sure there is no one that doesn't know who she is—regardless of how old you are. She was the iconic "sex symbol", and to this day is still considered to be one of the most beautiful women in history. But why
? According to our current standards of physical beauty, she's not beautiful. Those standards are constantly changing depending on what the current fad is. But is that " true
" beauty?
I looked up the definition of beauty. It said: " the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit"
.
Hmmm...sounds like beauty is a bit more than something we see with our eyes!
Yesterday I stood in line waiting to pay my respects at a funeral service. I was in line about 15 minutes, and directly in front of me was an older couple who had gone to school with the deceased gentleman. They married right out of high school, he went onto serve our country, and they raised a family. As they were talking and looking at each other, I saw love in their eyes and absolute beauty in their souls. In my mind, there is nothing physical about beauty—it's something deep inside of us. These two people where absolutely beautiful!
The amazing thing about it is that everyone has a spark of beauty. Everyone—no matter what they look like on the outside or how imperfect they feel in their skin or body—has that spark of beauty! Yesterday I saw it plain as day when I looked in the faces of those two elderly people. I saw their love and their quality of life.
Did you ever realize that children tend to see beauty where adults do not?
When my daughter was about 3, we were in line at the grocery store and the girl checking us out had a cleft lip. I saw my young daughter staring intently at her. I could see the girl was getting uncomfortable at this young child staring at her and I, to be frank, was afraid of what would come out of her mouth. I didn't want her to make this girl feel worse. As we were getting ready to leave the line, my daughter looked straight at this girl and said: " You have the most beautiful eyes
." The girl's face lit up! What a beautiful moment. A child saw the beauty, and I as the adult saw only the difference. Out of the mouths of babes!
I came across this very interesting video from the author Jeff Olsen, who wrote " I Knew Their Hearts
". He had a near death experience and shares the details about it in this video. It's all very interesting and I'd encourage you to watch the entire video if you are so inclined. Around the 11 minute mark he talks about an experience he had where he realizes the hearts and souls of the people around him. It changes his view on life entirely.
What if you could see someone's soul? Would you see the beauty within them? Would you be able to look at life totally differently if you could understand what makes someone tick; what makes them do what they do?
Take a moment this week and try to see the beauty in everyone you meet—maybe even compliment them on that beauty. One kind gesture can instantly turn someone's bad day to the positive side. Make someone feel beautiful this week! Look beyond the obvious!
“It's that heart of gold and stardust soul that make you beautiful.”
