Rerun From February 11, 2019: Ethics...
February 7th, 2022

Each week when I write these, I choose something that has shown up for me several times during the preceding week. I figure that if I've seen it that many times, it's something that I need to hear, and most likely many other people as well.
This week, the word " ethics
" kept showing up. Ethics are the moral principles that govern our daily lives—b
asically, it's how we choose to act in situations. Do we do the right thing even when no one is looking
; and even when the " right
" thing to do is not the " right
" thing for us personally? I think for most people that's always where the moral dilemma arises. We face something that may be good for us personally, but it's not the "right" thing to do morally.
Case in point would be the story of Keven Booth
. ( Click here to follow a link to the story.
) He found a bag with $17,000 dollars in it outside of a local food bank. Instead of keeping that money for himself, he turned it in to the food bank; thinking it could help more people that way. Now that was ethics
! Why, you ask
? Most people would have returned that money, right
? The amazing part was that Keven was homeless, and he chose
to do the right thing even though no one would have known otherwise; and even though I'm sure that money could have turned his personal situation around. Kevin did what was right. In doing so, he helped so many other people.
What about us? How many times are we called upon to do something— or guide someone in a direction— that is the right thing to do, but might not be in our personal best interests? Are we able to do that?
I had heard the story about Keven Booth several months back. However, when I went looking for the article this morning to share, I found multiple stories of homeless people that had returned money they found. What's so amazing about that is these people truly need
the money. To a homeless person, finding a large amount of money could be a gift or could be life changing. Yet in so many cases, they opt to return or share their findings with others. Not only does that qualify as great ethics, but it qualifies as great compassion and humanity.
Remember: we're all in this thing called "life"
together. Do what's right, always, everyday, and in every endeavor.
By helping others, we help ourselves and we help the world! And—remember this as well—our children watch and see how we act, and they act accordingly! You act with ethics...they act with ethics...we change the world!!!!
Here's to an amazing. life changing and ethical week!
"A truly good and wise man will bear all kinds of fortune in a seemly way, and will always act in the noblest manner that circumstances allow."
