The purpose of life.

What is the purpose of all this?
The purpose of life. A question for the ages! What is it? How do we find it?
I get up every morning, brush my teeth, get dressed, drink my coffee and head to work. Work all day, head home, eat dinner, walk the dog and go to bed. Same thing --- virtually every single day. Do I smile during the day? Sure. Do I enjoy moments of the day? Sure.
But what’s the purpose? Why am I doing all this?
Well it would seem that I’m doing all this so I can have a place to live, a vehicle to drive, food to eat, clothes to wear. But is that it?
Geez, I hope not!
The search for the purpose of life has been a question asked by virtually every person in every generation. It’s not new, and I don’t think anyone has really found the answer.
It certainly doesn’t lie in the type of car we drive, or the house we live in.
So where then?
I recently heard the term “ Daymaker
”. It’s a person who makes the day of another person. The story of how this came about goes like this. A woman goes into a hair salon to get her hair styled for an event she says she's attending. The salon she goes to has a very warm inviting feel, and she is very happy there because she is treated as if she is very special. Her stylist laughed and joked with her, and put his heart in his work. She leaves that day and decides “ not to attend her event”
. You see the event she was planning on attending was a funeral. HER FUNERAL.
She had planned to take her own life. (This, by the way, is a true story.)
Several
days later, the stylist received a letter from her explaining that his kindness that day had changed her mind. She checked herself into a hospital to get the help she needed. Had he not treated her with that kindness she well may have proceeded with her plan. His kindness not only saved her life --- but the grief and sadness of all that loved her. The “Daymaker” group was established around this event with the sole purpose of “ making the day
” of people around the world. Now what a concept that is!
That’s a purpose I can get excited about. We think that making the day of another individual has to be huge, but it doesn’t, not at all. You could smile at a stranger. Hold the door for someone. Pay for the coffee of the person behind you in line at your local coffee shop. Pick up flowers at the store and hand them to someone on your way out the door. Leave your spouse a note telling them to have a great day. Maybe being a daymaker one day means taking care of you, and by doing so, you can be more purposeful in your desire to make someone else’s day.
We never know what is going on in the lives of the people around us. Most people put on a face for the world to see. A smile; a kind word; but behind the eyes is a pain we cannot see.
Be kind, be caring, be a daymaker
. You have the power in you to alter a life dramatically.
It's impressed upon us every day that we have no power to change what's going on around us. WE HAVE ALL THE POWER!
We have the power within each and every one of us to change the world. It starts with us. It starts with our actions and our choices.
Make it your purpose to do one random act of kindness (this can be as simple as a smile
) every day of your life.
One simple random act of kindness has the power to change the course of everything! Be a part of this movement --- be a daymaker
!
"This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes; this day will be gone forever; in its place is something you have left behind...let it be something good.
