Life's Changes
Published: August 30, 2021

Your life is your story!
I was struck by this quote when I saw it. How true. If you’d known me 20 years ago, I was a different person. Life has changed me. Experiences have changed me. Some experiences have made me softer and more loving --- others have made me tougher and harder to reach. Life’s hard…period.
Just when things seem to be amazing, somewhere out in left field something lodges a hit in your direction. If you’re lucky you might dodge it --- if you’re not, it might just change everything.
What are a few sure things in life?
There are going to be happy times and sad times. There is going to be great joy and great loss. There is going to be laughter, love, hurt, and pain. You are going to embrace certain moments with joy, and certain moments are going to knock you down. Life is going to reward you--- and wound you.
Life is your story.
It's what you make of it. Life is full of chapters, seasons, whatever you want to call them. Life ebbs and flows between amazing and painful. From each of these peaks and valleys, we learn, we change and take something new that moves us into the next chapter of our life. Most of the time what softens our tough exterior the most is the difficult times. The times that wound us make us take stock of what is really important, it may even take us down a path completely different than the one we were on.
In my life what has softened me and made me more caring were most definitely the hard times. These were the times that made me realize that anger gets me no where. It made me look at situations and people from a less judgmental stand and from a more loving stand. When life was moving along beautifully and I was living happily, I was less able to see why someone else may not be. Only the hard times allow us that perspective.
So if you’d known me 20 years ago, you would have seen a person who had everything they wanted in life. But that person needed to grow, so life threw me the hard lessons --- the important ones
. What we do with those lessons will create the next chapter and our wins and losses there.
So if you walked in on this chapter of my life, you’re seeing the version that has changed and has adapted to those changes. The one that has grown through all that life has dished out. The one that that got knocked down a few times, but continued to try to move forward. The one that takes 10 steps forward and 15 backward. That's what you’re seeing in this chapter.
What do I see when I look at you?
What do you see when you look at others?
Are you judging --- or are you loving?
Once again, your choice! Don’t wait to gain compassion until life kicks you. Try shifting your perspective now. Live in love and compassion. Stop judging others by what you see in this moment --- it’s not their whole story.
Add value to the lives of those around you. Do it now --- tomorrow is not promised.
We are in this together. Each and every one of us has the ability to help another along. Don’t judge anyone by where they are in this moment --- there may be way more to them than you realize!
“This is my life, my story, my book. I will no longer let anyone else write it; nor will I apologize for the edits I make.”
