Ego vs Intuition...
Published Monday June 7, 2021

I've always been one of those people who uses my intuition to guide my life. I pay attention to those "gut"
feelings and I listen to them. They are usually spot on. Actually, if the truth be told, they're probably always spot on ---
except --- when I'm not listening
! Why wouldn't I listen to those feelings when I know that they tend to be correct? Hmmm...let's see, maybe I don't like what it's telling me --- or maybe my ego is getting in the way of me seeing the full picture.
You see, for each and every one of us, the ego and the intuition are constantly battling each other. The ego represents our conscious mind and it likes structure and patterns. The ego is what we tell ourselves without question. Ego comes after the "I am"
. "I am smart." "I am talented." "I am fat." These may have been things that were programmed into you as a child, or they may be things that you've picked up along the way. Regardless, they are your "identity".
What you have told yourself that you are, and more importantly what you " believe
" you are.
Intuition on the other hand is what we just "know"
. Something we feel, something that guides us to look beyond ourselves. If we listen to it, it will never lead us astray. It always, always has the answer.
SO
--- what happens when the two become muddled? What happens when you can't tell what is intuition and what is ego?
It's a seemingly simple answer (although I'm going to admit here it's not quite this easy to apply in real life.)
Think of it as a "loop" and a "spiral".
A loop is just what it implies --- a loop. You constantly tell yourself something. What is your "I am"?
This is your ego. Plain and simple. You are repeating the same cycle over and over again. It feels comfortable --- it feels "safe"! It's a loop, you run over and over again in your mind. I am not good enough. I am not worthy. I am ( you insert your words here
). That's your ego talking. It's keeping you safe, not allowing you to take a risk, trying to prevent you from being hurt. It keeps you living in fear.
A spiral on the other hand, starts at one place and gradually grows larger as it moves past its center point. This is your intuition. It's calling you to make gradual changes to your life, to your situation, to yourself. Gradual. Nothing radical. Just make yourself a bit uncomfortable.
Give yourself time to adjust to that, and then push it a little further. These changes lead you to evolve and grow into a more spiritual being. Consciousness, pure consciousness is able to see beyond repeating cycles and urges you to move forward. It takes you out of the loop --- and it takes you away from the fear. It allows you to live, to truly embrace life and all it has to offer.
Intuition will lead you away from fear.
Ego will keep you trapped in fear.
When we chose to live without fear, and in the moment, we will truly be embracing all the gifts that are right there in front of us.
Don't stay stuck in your loop because your ego won't allow you to see past it. Recognize what you are doing.
Make a change. One little change.
Take one step, allow yourself to be uncomfortable with that step, and then embrace it, and take another step. Before long, your entire world will look different than it does now --- in the most positive of ways. Our intuition will never steer us wrong --- if only we'd learn to listen to it! Our best life might be just one step past our comfort zone. Life is short --- go for it!
This week embrace your inner knowing and take one step towards a brighter future!
