Finding A Purpose...
June 20th, 2022

What are you doing today? What is on your agenda?
When you think about the day ahead and what you have planned, how does it make you feel?
Are you feeling excited about the day? Are you stressed and filled with trepidation about the day? How does your body feel? Relaxed --- excited? Stressed --- worried?
Take a moment before reading further and think about how you really feel about the day ahead and about the tasks you have planned.
There are many people that are living lives that are not totally fulfilling them. There are many possible reasons for this. Maybe it is financial? Maybe it is comfort? Maybe it is what they know and what they were trained for, therefore, it's what they do? Maybe it is inside of their comfort zone --- thereby "easier". There could be many reasons why we are not living our purpose. It is important to understand that none of these reasons are right or wrong.
We do what we do --- whatever the reason.
Often times we begin to sit and take stock of life and what it means. Usually this happens to us as we get older, or after we have been dealt a significant loss. We start re-thinking life and what it truly means. We will feel like we are spinning our wheels building a life that doesn't totally fulfill us. We begin to realize the value of our time --- and the limited amount of it.
We find we only want to do things that bring us joy in the moments we have.
Purpose
is something that every person needs in life --- and many people lack. Without purpose, life will not be fulfilling. The term " purpose
" is also gravely misinterpreted. We can think we have found purpose but our choice can leave us empty inside.
We have talked before about "ego". Ego is our sense of "self".
It is our self-worth. Our perception that we are separate from all others --- and separate from our higher power. That separateness is what keeps us from finding our true "purpose".
I'm sure you have heard, or have said
, that someone has a "big ego". That would mean they have a large sense of self and maybe even a large sense of "their own accomplishments". A person living their true "purpose" is not doing so for the accomplishment of it, but rather for the service of it.
Living a life of "purpose" is being of " service to others
" --- not
"service to self".
How can you tell if you are living "on purpose"? Start by asking yourself questions about why you do what you do. Be honest and write the answers down. Now read over them and see how they are centered. Pay attention to the wording. It would be helpful to have someone who is objective read over your list for you. Remember when doing this exercise " passion is not always purpose
". You should absolutely be passionate about your purpose --- but you can be passionate about something that is not your purpose. Passion and purpose are not the same thing
!
A true purpose is honest, loving, and sincere service to others. It is service with exchange.
Both the receiver and the giver are filled up by the exchange. The words "I am doing something to help another person"
--- are ego centered. In true purpose --- everyone wins.
Being a martyr is not living on purpose.
Remember if it feeds your ego you are not living on purpose.
You are living on purpose when it feeds your soul
!
Your purpose may not be grandiose
-- - it may be small --- that's ok --- it's all good, it's all helpful, and it all gets us where we're going!
Feed your soul this week --- and feed the souls of everyone you come in contact with. If it is not feeding your soul it is keeping you from what you are truly here to do.
Take one small step and GO FIND THAT
---- go live life with the purpose of a 4 year old in a batman costume!
“Your purpose in life is to find your purpose and give your whole heart and soul to it”
