Motivational Monday: Change Your Paradigm
(Posted on August 3, 2020)

A paradigm is a way of looking at something.
When you change paradigms , you're changing how you think about something.

The motto behind Nutrition Response Testing™ is #changetheparadigm. Why? Because sometimes it seems like our society as a whole is getting sicker and sicker, yet our knowledge of the human body is greater than it has ever been. Why, with all of our knowledge, do we still struggle to give medical answers to those who need them?
Many of the patients who come through our doors feel like they have been failed by the medical system. Most have struggled with symptoms for years—and are often left without answers for what is causing them. We have heard stories about patients being shuffled around from specialist to specialist, racking up medical debts with nothing to show for it. They are sick, tired, and desperate for answers. Why haven't they been able to find help within the system that was designed to help them?
In cases like these, sometimes we need to find a way to " Change the Paradigm " and do something different. That's why supportive care like Nutrition Response Testing™ exists.
This concept obviously applies to our health, but also to our lives in general. Have you ever stopped to think about all the " paradigms " in your life?
Our paradigms, or perspectives, are way more complex than we realize. The views we have set for ourselves will influence the decisions we make, our ethics, and how we think other people ought to view the world. H ow can we be sure our values and beliefs are true and accurate?
Let's use the statement, " the Earth revolves around the sun, " as an example. We've been taught this fact since day one. Once a theory, it is now understood to be " true " based on research and evidence that supports it as a fact. It's a "true paradigm." A " false paradigm " would be the belief that the Sun revolves around the Earth. While both theories could explain why we have cycles of night and day—and both account for the movement of the Sun and moon across the sky— only one of these theories can be supported by the facts .
There was a time in human history where we believed that the Earth circled the Sun. It took brave and courageous scholars to stand up against the status quo and challenge this belief. Despite the mathematical theories in support of a Sun-centered solar system, it still took centuries until the truth took hold.
The scholars who supported a Sun-centered system were ridiculed—their research condemned—and yet they stood true to the mathematics before them. Without these astronomers, our modern world may have developed much differently. Granted, folks of the past had comparably inferior technology to that which we have today. They did the best with the resources that were available to them. Regardless, when faced with new information the public refused to open themselves to the idea of an entirely new way of understanding the world.
Basing our core beliefs on a "false paradigm" could have a variety of damaging effects on our societies and the futures we build for our children. By continuing to believe in "false paradigms" despite facts, we are restraining the development
of the world around us.
What do you firmly believe? Sit and ponder it for a minute. Personally, I know there are many things that I believe very strongly— many of which
have changed over the year
s. Admittedly, there was a period of my life when I was unwilling to consider certain " facts
" as anything other than the absolute truth. That was a time of my life when I was idealistic and I believed that the world could be perfect. Time taught me differently.
Time made me realize I needed to be open to the possibility that the things I've believed my entire life could be wrong. That's a hard one to swallow because it shakes up our paradigm—our standard.
If the Earth really does revolve around the Sun and not the other way around, then what does that mean?
What if I'm wrong?
In order to create lasting change in our lives and in our world, we need to consider the " what if's" in life.
What if there's more that I have not learned yet? What then? What if the core beliefs I was taught as a child are no longer true?
Be a voice
—a strong, loving voice. One that can consider new perspectives and is always open to the possibility of something more. We live in an incredible time: the age of information. There is no excuse for ignorance anymore. Educate. Learn. See. Grow. Hear stories from the people who have lived them. Listen to a good podcast or an interesting TED Talk. Explore somewhere new. Only when we open our eyes can we see the light!
Be open this week to a new idea—any new idea. Ponder it, read about it, listen to another point of view and think about the "what if's." If we are going to shift the paradigm and make the world a better place for everyone, we need to start with a willingness to be open to something that may rattle our
reality!
Have a great week. Remember: do all things with great love!
