Motivational Monday: HOPE—it's always present!
(Originally posted on March 30, 2020)

So how are you all holding up? This week has taken social distancing to an all new level: shelter in place
! So how's that working out for everyone?
Well I'm just going to be honest here: my fuse is shorter than usual! Why? I don't know....I certainly do know
better!
I feel a little overwhelmed, worried, and stressed. I'm sure you can all relate.
But the thing is, I do know better!
I know full well that worrying about this is not going to make it go away. It might even make things worse
because I'm stressing myself and forcing my body's immune system to work even harder. So essentially, those concerns in my mind are working against the good things I am doing— eating right, nourishing my mind, and exercising
! I've got most of it right, but I'm sabotaging myself every time I start to let the worry in.
We're all human. The concern for the well-being of our loved ones and of ourselves is going to outweigh what we know at certain times. Right there is where the challenge lies. If we think of our life as a training ground or a school, then every experience is akin to taking a class to learn something. Well this is a tough class. How many of us will excel...or even pass?
Let's start by thinking of this current state of the world like a class—a class we need in order to graduate. Perhaps it's even our least favorite class!
🤣 We know that we have to get through it or we won't graduate; what steps are we going to take to make sure that we pass? (If it were me, I don't want to just pass— I'd prefer to excel!)
So where do I start?
First thing's first, I need to lengthen my fuse
! I can't get so upset at things that don't really matter—It's time to laugh them off! I think in this instance, laughter really is the best medicine. So every time something tenses me, I'm going to laugh instead!
What about the anxiety
? The first question I have to ask myself is, "What am I afraid of?" Am I afraid of getting the virus?
Well if that is the case, what steps can I take to prevent that? I already know this answer: keep my immune system strong. I do that by making good, healthy choices, and by consciously keeping my mind in a good place.
Am I afraid of what could come of all this?
Perhaps that is the case, but the worst thing I can do is feed into that thinking and become part of it. If we watch the news continuously, there is no way we can help but to feed into the fear. Our collective thinking will have an impact on that. If we work together and help each other, there's nothing to be afraid of.
Am I bored?
Why? I wanted some downtime, right? Well I got it! So why am I not grateful for it and using it to the best of my ability? Cook with your family, pick up a new hobby, watch a funny movie (or catch up on a new TV show), go for a walk/hike, or maybe work on a house project! It's all within your reach. Be gentle with yourself, but remind yourself to try to get out of the fear and just do it!
Be grateful for this free time!
Remember that without obstacles or challenges, we can never grow. How are you overcoming this obstacle? A
re you growing or shrinking?
It's all up to you!
Everyone must join forces!
T
hink positively and help others as much as you can. We can pass this class together—and better yet, we can excel
at this class together. Together we can do anything!
“Our species can only survive if we have obstacles to overcome. You take away all obstacles. Without them to strengthen us, we will weaken and die.
