Motivational Monday: Let's Make a Change!
(Posted on February 15, 2021)

CHANGE...
Wow that word just makes us want to cringe... most of the time anyway.
Change
...the word carries with it a little bit of fear. Why? Because usually change, even when it's a good change, requires effort and adjustment on our part. It will inevitably involve losing something in favor of something else.
Status quo, for most of us --- works.
We like routine, the usual, the similar --- and we don't enjoy losing any of those things. Whenever change occurs it takes us awhile to fit into that new routine or that new status quo.
Whenever change is presented to us, typically on some level we resist. Example in point. I love to move furniture around. Sometimes I'll decide on the spur of the moment and just start moving things. Usually though, it isn't on the spur of the moment. It's usually been festering in there for sometime and the moment the change occurs is when I've decided to go for it. It would make the people in my family a little crazy at times, but they would grow to like the new arrangement and it would begin to feel comfortable to them. Their new status quo.
Until that is, I'd start all over again...
Why do I enjoy doing this
? It keeps everyone on their toes, that's for sure...lol...but that's not the reason for it. Have you heard of Feng Shui? It's an ancient Chinese practice designed to bring balance to a room, or a garden or anything really. It claims to use energy forces to harmonize individuals with their surrounding environment. Is there truth in this
? I don't know. All I know is that there are times when relocating the furniture in a room gives me a fresh new feeling about that room. It changes the way the room feels and the way I feel about the room.
Does change in our lives work the same way?
Change happens and what do we do? We resist.
We continue to resist until we finally give in to the new status quo. That becomes our normal. It becomes what we know.
Think back for a moment to a time in your life when there was a huge change. Choose a change that WAS NOT
something you wanted to have happen to you.
Think about it for a minute. Try to re-create your feeling around that time. Was it loss? Was it fear? Was it both? What did you do to get yourself through that time? What tools did you use? At what point did you shift into the change and embrace it? Or didn't you?
There is no one easy answer here. Change is difficult in many cases. The one thing about change that is always true --- is that when I reflect on that time I can always find something good that came out of it.
Even the absolute worst situation.
The trouble is that it often took me a long time to see the positive side. Our goal should be to bend with the change, and stop resisting it. Believe, know in our gut
, that whatever is happening is happening for your greater good. Try and take the lesson earlier rather than later. There are not many constants in life --- but change is a constant!
It will always be here --- always waiting around the corner and often coming when we least expect or want it. So let's learn to love the moment, as it is
, and embrace the next one as it is
!
And go have some fun and move some furniture...😂😂
“Embrace uncertainty. Some of the most beautiful chapters in our lives won't have a title until much later.”
