Motivational Monday: The Ghosts of Christmas Past
(Posted on December 21, 2020)

And
...here it comes
--- Christmas 2020! Most likely
this one will be different than any we've experienced in the past. Most likely
it will be lacking some of the festivities --- maybe in some cases, some of the joy
--- of past holiday seasons.
Thinking about this caused me to reflect a bit on past Christmases, on this Christmas, and on what I hope for future Christmases.
Growing up we spent every Christmas Eve at my grandmother's house. She'd have a big spread --- ring bologna, cheese, Christmas cookies, dates with peanut butter and rolled in sugar, egg nog and tons of other delectable goodies for us to chose from. She'd spend days getting ready, and the dining room table would be covered when we got there. Presents under the tree, Christmas Carols playing --- and the entire family gathered in one place! I remember being so excited on Christmas Eve I couldn't wait to go over there. Then of course, we'd head home so that we could put out cookies and milk for Santa and get to bed early in case he was earlier than we expected.
As an adult, I attempted to replicate those great memories for my daughter. We adapted each Christmas as we went along and tried to make them as memorable for her as possible. Present day Christmases, a s the older generations passed on
, became less of a festivity and more of a family day. But still filled with joy and happiness.
Each year came with its lessons and changes, nonetheless the days where memorable and special. What will this year -- 2020 -- the year of the pandemic
bring to our holiday celebrations? More importantly -- what will it teach us going forward about the values we should strive to embrace?
What do I remember most about those past holiday celebrations
? I remember the love that went into preparing the feast we would all enjoy! I remember the feast! I remember laughing. I remember the Christmas Carols. I remember the Church service, and singing all those special holiday songs.
I remember the joy!
When Christmas 2020 is behind me, what will I remember? What do I hope to see in future Christmases?
JOY!!!!
Love, Happiness and JOY!
Whatever you do this year, do not allow yourself to lose the joy of Christmas. Even if you are alone --- even if you have no money for presents!
IT DOESN'T MATTER! Find something to fill you up on Christmas day! Look thru old photos --- watch a favorite old Christmas movie Find something to be joyful about --- and hold onto that!
Next year you want to be able to look back on this day and remember the joy! The joy you searched for and found in the midst of the darkness! The joy that you held onto and didn't allow circumstances to rob you of.
Don't allow the circumstances of this physical world to rob us of what Christmas truly means! Hold onto to your JOY --- it's a gift!
Merry Christmas -- Happy Hanukkah -- Happy Holidays -- whatever it is you celebrate --- do it with love and with joy!!!!!
"Like snowflakes, my Christmas memories gather and dance — each beautiful, unique, and gone too soon."
