Motivational Monday: Time for some Laughter
(Originally posted on May 6, 2019)

This has been an exciting week for us as we prepped for the open house of our new building. We sincerely thank everyone who attended, and those who took advantage of our special offers!!!
We are looking forward to being able to offer many other alternatives to healing and making a larger impact on the health and well-being of our community. Thanks so much for being a part of that!
Now as exciting as this was—and as happy as we were to put in the effort to make it a great experience— I
have to say...
it was exhausting
. As I sit here reflecting on what we did, and what we could have done differently, I feel tired! Very tired!
Last evening as I was getting ready to call it a day, I turned on the TV and caught part of an episode of " I Love Lucy
". I found myself really laughing at this one clip. (I couldn't find the entire clip, but this was a shorter part of it.) I watched it, and then watched it again later with someone else. Now maybe I was just tired, but I think it was more like I really needed to laugh.
Laughter is healing. It's restoring; and it's just downright good for us
.
Laughter is a powerful countermeasure for stress, pain, and conflict. Think about it: a good and powerful belly-laugh works faster than anything to bring our minds and body back into balance. When we're in the throes of something stressful, humor can lighten the burden, connect us to others, keep us grounded, focused, and alert. It can also help with more intense emotions like anger and can even help us forgive. If we can laugh at something that happened, it's easier to forgive it.
Laughter has so much power to heal and renew our lives. It's a tool.
It's something we forget about when times get stressful and we're under pressure to get something accomplished. If we are able to step out of ourselves for a moment and look at the situation from a different perspective, we might just be able to see the humor in our stress. I'm sure all of us were pretty darned funny last week trying to get everything in place for our open house. Did our stress help anything?
Probably not. Everything might not have been the " perfect
" way we thought it should be... but you know what
? It was great, just like it was supposed to be.
If we are able to step back and see life as "it is what it is, and that's perfect",
then maybe we'd all laugh a little more at the process of getting to that place!
I just learned that there is such a thing called " Laughter Yoga
". It's based on the belief that voluntary laughter can provide the same physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter. What they have found is that forced laughter most often times turns into real and contagious laughter. I went searching for clips and found this one
that was short, and I think showed this in action the best. ( Warning
: some expletives are used by the kids in the clip.)
But I think overall this shows the benefits of laughter.
So this week, let's spread something around: let's share our laughter.
Laugh a little more, especially when you feel you're too stressed to laugh! See if it doesn't lift your mood and the mood of those around you! Get a group together and just sit and laugh for two or three minutes...then laugh for two or three more minutes at how silly you look! Betcha feel better!!!!!
Laugh my friend, for laughter ignites a fire within the pit of your belly and awakens your being.
