Motivational Monday: What's LOVE got to do with it?
(Originally posted on April 29, 2019)

Pretty powerful image, isn't it?
It really struck a cord with me. What are we filling our children with? What are we filling others
with? What are we filling ourselves
with? The choices are endless: what are we choosing?
Many years back, someone gave me a book about Love from the author Leo Buscaglia. He was a pretty popular motivational speaker in the 70's and 80's. Dr. Buscaglia was moved by a student's suicide, encouraging him to contemplate human disconnectedness and the meaning of life. He started a non-credit class he called Love 1A, which became the basis for his first book " LOVE
". Dr. Buscaglia empowered people all over the world to LOVE
more! He knew that love is life
and life is love
-- the more love
we welcome into our hearts, the more life
we will add to our world.
Dr. Buscaglia said “Love yourself—accept yourself—forgive yourself—and be good to yourself, because without you the rest of us are without a source of many wonderful things.”
How powerful is that? If we don't recognize the power of love, we deny everyone in our sphere a great gift. When we do recognize it, we give a gift to everyone we meet!
So back to the above picture. If we are filling ourselves daily with hate, greed, and sadness, we are radiating that into the world and adding more of it to our world. Our children are seeing that; they are being filled with it and that is what they
share with the world. They only see us, they see how we live, and they emanate that. Remember that children will learn was love is by what they see. They will continue to model their lives after what they see in the world they grow up in.
If they see dysfunction that's what they continue with. It's what they know
. If they see love and compassion and gratitude, they continue with that. I
t'
s what they know.
It all starts with us!
If on the other hand, we fill ourselves daily with love, compassion, affection, and gratitude, that's what we send out into the world and what returns back to us. Our children see that, and while they are imitating what they see, more love is going out into the world.
So let's stop blaming the kids for acting poorly, and let's look in the mirror at how we're acting. What are we filling them with? Do we honor, love, and respect our partners on this journey? Do we honor, love, and respect our children? Do we honor, love, and respect our pets, our friends, our neighbors? Everything is part of our world, everything should be treated with love and respect. Maybe if we approached all life like this, life would be love!
Here's a link to a brief chat by Dr. Buscaglia. You know he nailed it when he said: "Love costs nothing to give, you have nothing to lose, and everything to gain"!
So love a little more! This week, fill yourself, your kids, your entire world with love and just watch it ripple outwards!
“A loving relationship is one in which the loved one is free to be himself — to laugh with me, but never at me; to cry with me, but never because of me; to love life, to love himself, to love being loved. Such a relationship is based upon freedom and can never grow in a jealous heart.”
