Motivational Monday: Trust Your Inner Voice!
(Posted on September 28, 2020)

It's time to make a big decision.
It could be changing jobs, changing relationships, or moving to a new location. What do we do? Whatever it is, we make decisions all day every day.
Most of our decisions are relatively inconsequential—or so we think anyway.
What do we base those decisions on? Facts...or gut instinct?
Probably during the day most of our actions happen through gut instinct. We just do what feels right. So if we get up in the morning and the red dress makes us feel good, then that's what we wear. No facts are involved—just feelings and instincts. It seems to be a relatively inconsequential decision.
Then there are bigger decisions. Everything seems to be moving along smoothly in our lives and then out of the blue someone offers us another job. A good job; one you're sure you would enjoy and would bring you fulfillment. However, you like what you're doing now. This was unexpected. It's decision time
!
This is where the facts come in.
You make the T-Chart and list the positives and the negatives of each option. Now you have facts to work with—things you are 100% sure of. These charts help give you a clear direction you should take. Even with the logical option sitting in front of you, something inside your gut doesn't feel right. Your head and your "gut instinct" are not aligning.
So what do you do?
In my experience, things did not go well when I listened to the " facts
" over my gut instinct. Would things have been better had I gone the other way? Who knows!
There is a big interest right now in natural medicine about gut health. There is even science out there suggesting that there is a second (
and even more powerful
) "brain" in our gut. The balance of this "brain" in our gut can affect our moods and even our health. It's quite an interesting topic with much to learn. What if this "brain" in our gut is actually a better decision-maker than our actual brain? When we use gathered information to make decisions, sometimes we're using someone else's "truths" that are based on their experiences. Maybe that resonates with us
and maybe we just accept their "truths" as fact without looking into them any further. Someone else might come to another belief by using the same experiences and information. Who's wrong? Maybe no one.
Maybe there is no wrong answer or wrong decision—just a different perspective.
Regardless of the perspective or what we choose to believe, we'll all learn a different lesson.
So is there ever a wrong decision
?
I don't think there are wrong decisions in our general, everyday lives. I think there are different directions and different learning experiences. I feel strongly that our gut knows the greater
lesson. If we listen to that, then our lives will be more balanced and fulfilling.
The next time you need to make a big decision, try to go with your gut!
Don't listen to facts, figures, or that handy dandy T-Chart— listen to your inner voice.
It will never let you down!
“Never discredit your gut instinct. You are not paranoid. Your body can pick up on bad vibrations. If something deep inside of you says something is not right about a person or situation. Trust it.
