Motivational Monday: Where are your Butterflies?
(Posted on April 26, 2021)

What are you excited about?
When is the last time you felt butterflies in your stomach?
Do you remember being a kid and you couldn't wait for something to happen. Maybe it was a holiday, a birthday, or a vacation. It was so exciting that you felt those butterflies floating around your stomach. Wasn't that an amazing feeling?
I remember back a few years ago, Zach's daughter Ella was small. She asked if she could go home and have lunch with me and Zach said it was ok. The entire way home she kept asking me when we'd be there. I'd say in a few minutes. Under her breath I'd hear her excitedly say "I can't wait"! She was so enthused about something that had seemed totally mundane to me. But her excitement brought a huge smile to my face, which I still have whenever I recall the memory. What a gift.
I don't know about you all, but it's been a long time since I felt that kind of excitement about anything. Days have
become mundane and routine. I do this on Monday, this on Tuesday, etc., etc., --- and then it's finally the weekend. That zips around so fast I hardly know what hit me.
Then back to the mundane.
Do you realize we're wishing our lives away? How sad is that? What if we could regain some of that childhood enthusiasm and begin to look forward to life again.
The truly sad part about all of this is that world events have led us to be so routine about our lives that we're no longer interested in living them. We're " doing
" them...but we're not "l
ivin
g
" them. Y ou see, living requires us to be engaged, enthusiastic and in the moment.
Where did that go?
I've realized lately that I haven't been enjoying life. There is no joy. So, I have very consciously been trying to reconnect myself with the things in life that bring me joy. It's made a huge difference in the moments of everyday.
How can you do this for yourself?
Easy, simple things. When is the last time you and your spouse went on a walk and held hands? What about sitting and coloring with your child? Let them talk --- soak up their enthusiasm for life. They might just leave you with a memory, like the one I have with Ella that makes me smile years later. Go visit an elderly neighbor, take them a treat you made. ( Look at our recipes on line and keep it on the healthier side --- yeah I did have to say that.) Listen to their joy at your arrival. Do something different, outside of your usual routine and watch how it perks up your day --- and just possibly puts some butterflies back in your stomach!
Get excited
! Do some good!
It's time we stop reacting to fear and stress and start living like all that matters is those butterflies in our stomach!
Make this week exciting!!!!!!
