What would you say?
Posted May 3, 2021

If you were given an opportunity to go back and give yourself some advice, what would that advice be?
I have been thinking a lot about the " what if
" I knew then what I know now? Would that knowledge have changed things --- even more important, how would that knowledge have changed the me I am today?
So I began thinking about specific times. There was a pair of " bell-bottom
" pants that I just loved. I guess my grandmother was not happy that I always wanted to wear them, so she hid them from me. I admit --- I'd be sure my younger self knew where they were so I could go retrieve them --- before I outgrew them!
🤣
Then there's the time I was leaving the house, I knew deep down inside that when I returned the dog would no longer be there. He was old --- and I knew the expression on his face. I brushed it off --- left --- and never went back to say one extra goodbye. That one I would surely change!
What other things would I want my younger self to know? How about stop trying to be an adult so fast --- it's not all that much fun! 😂
Hug your grandmother more --- she won't be here forever. Tell everyone you love that you love them.
Arguing and being angry never solves anything. Stop worrying so much --- it'll all work out exactly as it should. Stop caring what others think of you --- it really is more a reflection of them, than of you. (Grandma was right.)
Be grateful for absolutely everything.
Even the difficult times are shaping you into the person you will become. Embrace them. Don't let fear hold you back, or pain to harden your heart.
Do all things with love. It's the greatest tool we have to make the world a better place. You got this --- you have every tool you need to live a happy, fulfilled life, keep your eye on what's important.
What is truly important to you? For me, it's definitely not anything I've collected in life, that's just stuff.
For me, it's the relationships I've created and the love I've enjoyed. What is it for you?
Think about all the things you wish your younger self could know. Maybe there are moments ( like the bell-bottoms or the dog)
that you wish you could go back and do-over. But we can't --- so rather, what did you learn from that? Well I learned that...I'll do the hiding on my bell-bottomed pants 😂😂. AND, the important one is that when I love someone, they will know it, EVERY TIME I leave the house. I will NEVER brush off a moment of "knowing" again. You see, it's not something that can ever be changed.
Take the lessons from the things you wish to tell your younger self and be proud of how far you have come.
The person you are right this moment is a reflection of all these moments that you wish you can change
.
Love who you are --- you are totally enough!
“A message from your future self: Pssst...It will all be ok. Breathe. Enjoy this quirky journey of a life you are on.”
