Motivational Monday - Stop the Hate

Daryl Davis. Do you know who he is?
Up until this past week I had no idea. He'd never been featured anywhere, I'd never seen his name on the news. Frankly --- I didn't know he existed.
I should have known. He should be all over the news.
We should ALL know his name. WHY --- because this guy -- he's is a game changer.
Davis was born in Chicago, Illinois. His father was an officer in the State Department so most of his early childhood was spent moving from town to town, country to country. When he was 10 years old his family moved to Belmont, Massachusetts where he joined a Cub Scout Pack. There was an incident where Daryl was carrying the flag and marching with his troop in a local parade when people began throwing rocks and bottles at him. You see Daryl was a "black" child in an all "white" troop.
The kids in the troop formed a protective ring around Daryl to protect him from harm. Children don't see differences. Davis never understood the event or what was happening. This event would have occurred sometime around 1968 when racial prejudices in our country where very high.
The event sparked a desire in Daryl to understand " why the hate
". Davis actually befriended a man named Roger Kelly, who was the leader of the KKK in Maryland. Against the odds, the two became friends. Davis eventually went on to befriend over 20 members of the KKK, and is directly responsible for between 40 to 60, and indirectly over 200 people leaving the Klan.
How did he do this?
He learned most prejudices come from misconceptions and from believing things we've been taught. It's not having "full facts" but having partial truths and making judgements based on that.
This all goes back to us believing everything we see and read.
How do we know there is truth in any of it?
At what point do we realize that we are being played?
At what point are we going to see that it doesn't matter if we're short or tall; white or black; fat or thin; left-handed or right-handed --- we're all souls here on this earth in a physical body trying to have the best experience possible. We all feel, we all bleed, we all love. We all are doing our best to make the best of a tough world.
When will we stop the hate?
Take a moment to watch this video of Daryl Davis
talking.
Hate breeds hate. Fear breeds fear. Anger breeds anger. What's more powerful than all of this? Only one thing. LOVE!
We have it in our power to stop all this right now. It all starts with us. Change yourself, your views, your fears --- and everything else will fall into place!
This week, let's respect everyone and recognize that each and everyone of us is here on a journey and we're doing the best we can. Don't allow fear, or hate, or anger into your corner of the world. It all starts with YOU!
What's the one thing that can light up a dark room? ONE --- ONLY ONE
light needs to shine and the darkness is gone. BE THAT LIGHT!
Let's change the paradigm and stop allowing evil forces to control how we think and feel!
“Let your light shine so brightly that others can see their way out of the dark.”
