That Self Talk...
February, 21st 2022

S
elf esteem! We've talked about it many times. It's the "esteem" or the respect or admiration
you have for yourself.
We all have people in our lives that we respect and admire. Most of the time, if we're honest, we're striving to be more like them. Maybe it's their persona, or maybe it's a physical attribute that we like.
But do you respect and admire yourself?
Most of us have stories that include moments or chapters in which we are unhappy with our choices. Most of us also have moments or chapters in which we are unhappy with ourselves. That unhappiness could be physical, how we carry ourselves, our educational level. Anything at all.
It's our perception of ourselves --- and normally there is a degree of dissatisfaction with what we have.
If we have straight hair, we want curly. If we're short, we want to be tall, and so on and so on. We're never happy! This week I read the following and I'd like to share it with you.
Pretty Ugly
by: Abdullah Shoaib
I'm very ugly
So don't try to convince me that
I am a very beautiful person
Because at the end of the day
I hate myself in every single way
And I'm not going to lie to myself by saying
There is beauty inside of me that matters
So rest assured I will remind myself
That I am a worthless, terrible person
And nothing you say will make me believe
I still deserve love
Because no matter what
I am not good enough to be loved
And I am in no position to believe that
Beauty does exist within me
Because whenever I look in the mirror
I always think Am I as ugly as people say?
Wow ---
How many of us have a narrative similar to this as part of our daily routine? How many of us look in the mirror and see less than true beauty?
I suspect that everyone reading this can relate in some way or another.
But, you see, it's all about perception. Every single person has beauty within. We may not be physically perfect ( trust me NO ONE is
) --- but true beauty comes from within.
It comes from your genuine appreciation for the blessings in life. From your ability to give freely of yourself both in deed and in love. You deserve to be loved, and you are truly deeply beautiful!
NOW --- take a moment and go back and read that poem from the bottom up!
A little change in perspective certainly changes the entire view ... don't you think?
This week, change your self talk! Read this poem from the bottom up once every day. Let the words sink in. Walk into every room yielding the power of your true beauty! And, spread it around and let someone else know just how beautiful they are! Remember in every single moment that YOU ARE ENOUGH -- exactly as you are right now!
Have a blessed week!
“You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”
