Motivational Monday: A Resolution
(Posted on January 4, 2021)

Thursday night we went to sleep in one year and Friday morning we woke in another.
Yet another year of goals, joys, smiles, laughs, happiness
as well as sadness, loss and challenges to overcome. Most of the time we'll label a year as a "good
" year, or as a " bad"
year, always depending on the challenges we faced during that year.
We seem to view that simple switch of the clock as somehow monumental. A time to put the old behind us and step forward into the new. A time to relinquish old habits in favor of new habits. A time when "bad" years are gone and now a "good" year will begin.
A time when we can finally set our goals and reach them. A new page --- a blank page! Let's begin writing!
I actually feel this is a good practice. A time to sit down and reevaluate what is right in our world and what can use improvement. Years ago I used to fall into this trap and would sit down and write down all the things I was going to do in the new year. Exercise everyday, eat better, read more, etc., etc., etc. You know what, it would all happen --- until it didn't!
Those resolutions never became a part of my life and never stuck. Why?
Life got in the way!
So somewhere along the line I decided that every year I would make one
simple resolution --- one
thing that I could look back on and say "Yes, I accomplished that".
This is
one thing that we can all do, every single one of us. My resolution every year is to be a better person than I was the year before! Simple!
Simple yes, but that also means that we have to look at ourselves objectively; we have to be willing to see where we need improvement, and to actually make that improvement. One of the easiest steps to take in that direction is to be more loving to yourself. How many times a day are you hard on yourself? Do you criticize your appearance, or your performance at any certain task? Are you criticizing your body? Your eating habits? Anything...anything at all!
Are you aware that the body is approximately 70% water? Are you aware that if you talk to water in a positive way it changes the molecular structure of it? Are you aware that if you talk to it in a negative way it also changes the molecular structure of it? Dr. Masaru Emoto did tons of experiments on this exact thing and the results are astonishing. While researching some of his work, I came across this video clip
of an elementary school that did a simple version of his experiment using rice. You'll love it, and it clearly shows the power of our words on the environment.
So what is the first step to accomplishing your goals for 2021? Start with you -- the person in the mirror.
Don't bother writing down everything that is wrong with you and wrong with your life and your world. Write down how you want to see your world.
Speak lovingly to yourself --- speak lovingly to your environment. Speak what you want to see in your world and watch it change everything!
Resolution for this year --- "Be the best you you can be --- and do it with loving words!"
Change your words --- change your life!
(another short clip on the power of your choice of words)
Happy New Year!
